Pomene Lodge Description
Pomene Bay Lodge is situated in one of the most picturesque spots in Mozambique. It is remote, with a very low local population assuring pristine and unspoilt conditions. Pomene Lodge is 605km north of Maputo and 170km south of Vilanculos. Click here for more self-drive info. Gusts can also fly in to Inhambane on the regular schedule flight from O.R.Tambo and then be transferred to Pomene by the Pomene shuttle vehicle which is a 4x4 minibus. This scenic road transfer takes approximately 4 hours and can be arranged with Barra Bookings in Johannesburg or at Barra Lodge at Inhambane. The lodge is situated on a narrow peninsula with the Indian Ocean lapping at its front doorstep and crystal clear waters of a spectacular mangrove estuary lapping on the other, it has the best of both worlds. From every accommodation site you are no more than one minutes walk from the white beach sand and the warm Indian Ocean. The lodge is advantageously located in the Pomene Bay offering a sheltered haven for swimming. Here one cannot escape the rhythmic sound of the ocean nor miss seeing perfect sunsets over the estuary.

Pomene Lodge Directions
Lindela to Pomene From Lindela the road passes through Maxixe (pronounced Mashish) and then onto Massinga. This is also a new road once again making the drive a lot more pleasant. As you leave Massinga heading north you will find the Pomene turnoff (approx. 10km out of town) to the right. This is a dirt road of approx. 54km which is definitely a 4x4 drive. The road has some notorious sections and drivers need to concentrate and drive with caution. "Heartbreak Hill" is notorious and needs to be negotiated carefully. Nearer the coast the road becomes sand and it is advisable to deflate tyres for this last section (approx. 8km). The road is also narrow. Be cautious of oncoming vehicles. Follow the signs to Pomene Lodge. However, arriving at Pomene makes it all worthwhile. Remote, beautiful and definitely worth the effort.
