The Hohenstein Lodge is located on the south-western edge of the Erongo Mountains at the foot of the huge Hohenstein Massif (mountain range), about 25 km north of Usakos on the road D 1935. It is the closest Lodge to the famous Spitzkoppe mountains. All the bungalows as well as the restaurant at Hohenstein share the same breathtaking views. You will see Spitzkoppe at some distance to the left. Straight ahead, you will see the 1,469 meter tall Mount Kainachab and Hohenstein (2,319 meter)to its right. Both are situated across a wide valley dotted with ancient Camel thorn trees. In the evenings, Hohenstein is aglow in the warm red light of the beautiful sunsets. If the lengths of your stay permits, you can take day trips to Spitzkoppe and Brandberg, engage in game or bird-watching, or go on hiking trips. The view from the peak of Kainachab is indescribable - you simply have to experience it yourself. In addition, we can organize other mountain tours as well as tours through the Boulder Forest for those interested in the mining of gemstones. Another unforgettable experience is having dinner on our spacious patio while watching a variety of wild life pass by on their way to the watering hole. Throughout the day, the watering hole attracts numerous birds. Make sure not to forget your binoculars.

From Swakopmund or from the north: Once you are about 65 kilometers out of Swakopmund travelling along B2 from Swakopmund towards Windhoek, you will begin to see the Hohenstein mountain from 80 kilo meters away. You can easily reach the lodge on the D 1935 coming from Usakos or from the north. From the gate at the D 1935 to the lodge it is only one kilo meter on a sand road. To reach the Lodge over D 1935 from Usakos - turn left in Usakos between police and post office and drive about 25 km on the gravel road. From the north you can also travel on D 1935. From the entrance on the D 1935 to the Lodge it’s only 1 km on a very nice way (see our pictures). You can also turn about 25 km before Usakos on the gravel road D 1930 to Uis and Spitzkoppe. After about 9 km drive right on the D 1927 and after about 20 km you will reach D 1935 - you have to turn right. Now you will reach the entrance of Hohenstein Lodge after 8 km. From Windhoek via Karibib: In Usakos turn right between post office and police and go like above straight to the Lodge. On all these roads you can go with a usual car (even to Spitzkoppe). Hohenstein is the closest Lodge to Spitzkoppe (Bee line approx. 30 km).
