Blue Hill Escape offers guest house and self-catering accommodation in a 2300 hectare nature reserve, in the Kouga Mountains in the Western Cape. The property lies to the west of the Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area and shares two borders with the reserve. We offer various accommodation options to suit a variety of people, such as bed and breakfast in the main house, in our lovely guest rooms with a shared bathroom. A spacious communal lounge with fireplace and an extensive library are available for guests to enjoy. Additional meals can be booked. Kouga double room is a stylishly furnished medium-sized room that catches the morning sun and has views of the protea-filled hillsides. Outeniqua family room sleeps up to four people in two single beds and one bunk bed. This large, pine-furnished room is perfect to spread out, relax, read a book and enjoy the afternoon sun. Tsitsikamma twin room is a cosy unit. Great for those who want to get out and about, or enjoy a lie-in on the comfortable mattresses. We also have two self-catering units available: Swartberg is a newly thatched flat offering private accommodation with a view north towards the Swartberg mountains. The double bedroom is large and bright, with easy access to the comfortable lounge area and kitchen facilities. The modern bathroom (with shower and bath) has a view of Bloukop mountain and the nearby sand-olive slopes. Braai facilities are available in the garden. Baviaans Cottage is perfect for those who want to get away from it all. Electricity hasn't been laid on, gas lamps, candles and stars light up the darkness. A gas stove, fridge, and geyser offer all the modern comfort you need. There is a double bedroom, lounge with fireplace for cold nights, kitchen, and a bathroom with shower. Braai facilities are available on the private veranda. Activities on the property and in the surrounding area include hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, wildlife watching, expert-led walks, visits to San Caves, the Baviaanskloof, or a working farm.

Travelling on the N9 between Uniondale and Willowmore: 11 km north of Uniondale (48 km south of Willowmore – for a shorter route from Willowmore see instructions below) turn east onto gravel road at sign “Hartbeesrivier”. Drive for 18.8 km to Hartbeesrivier (cluster of houses). At the Y-junction follow the main road left. Drive for 6 km. Turn right onto a small gravel road. (Sign: "Paardekraal"). You still have 4.6 km to go. At next Y-junction turn left if you have a 4x4 or right if not. Roads meet shortly after. Drive past several buildings and through two gates. Y-junction: turn left. (Sign: "Paardekraal"). Third gate: our property. Drive up to the house. From Willowmore – shorter route Travelling on the N9 between Willowmore and Uniondale: About 3 km south of Willowmore turn left onto gravel road towards Baviaanskloof. Drive for 29 km. Turn right towards Uniondale. Stay on this road for 27.3 km. Ignore the Uniondale turn-off to the right after 14.3 km and continue straight towards Hartbeesrivier. After 27.3 km turn left onto a smaller gravel road (signs “Paardekraal” and “Blue Hill Escape”). You still have 4.6 km to go. At next Y-junction turn left if you have a 4x4 or right if not. Roads meet shortly after. Drive past several buildings and through two gates. Y-junction: turn left. (Signs: "Paardekraal" and “Blue Hill Escape”). Third gate: our property. Drive up to the house.
