Die Rotse Self-catering Accommodation is located on Beach Road, Kleinmond, in the Western Cape. Kleinmond, approximately one hour and 15 minutes' scenic drive from Cape Town International Airport, is situated on the western side of Sandown Bay between the Kogelberg mountain range and the rich Benguela sea current of the Atlantic Ocean. The seafront property is located on a peaceful cul-de-sac bordering the Nature Reserve. A 40 meter stroll leads to a natural tidal swimming pool and large inter-coastal tidal zone for hours of exploring in the unique Eco-system of the kelp forest. Follow the coastal path from here to Kleinmond's Blue Flag beach only 300 meters away. The main residence of your hosts, Werner and Lorraine Pauw, is a historic building with "Landmark Status", built in early 1910 and totally restored under the guidance of the Overstrand Aesthetics Committee and is known as Die Rotse. In line with the look and feel of Die Rotse there are two fully-equipped, three-bedroom apartments, known as Spykerklip (sleep 6) and Drievis (sleep 6), making up the rest of the complex. The accommodation includes a double garage that can house a ski-boat and two private garages for guests. The two apartments share a spacious communal Barbeque area fully equipped with separate braai/BBQ facilities including a Weber mobile barbeque. Firewood for BBQ can be provided at additional charge/ cost of R30 per 20 pieces. Shared facilities also include a private and secure kiddie’s playground and ample space for relaxing outdoors complete with herb and vegetable garden. 'Spykerklip' is our deluxe self-catering accommodation at upper level with a spectacular sea view boasting an en-suite main bedroom with an infinity view overlooking the ocean and 2 bedrooms overlooking the Kogelberg mountain range. A second full bathroom serves the Mountain View bedrooms. Fully equipped modern kitchen with appliances and utensils, whilst the living room is provided with small Media Centre i.e. Flat screen TV, DSTv, DVD and External Hard Drive with Movies. Internet connectivity is also available plus a book shelf with books and reading matter. All bedrooms are extended by joined balconies - the 2 mountain rooms share a balcony facing the mountain whilst the main bedroom shares a balcony with the open plan living room and lounge and offers an unobstructed magnificent sea view. The fully equipped kitchen has a clear view of both sea and mountain. 'Drievis' is a ground level self-catering apartment with 3 spacious bedrooms and single modern bathroom complete with an antique free standing bath and shower. The main bedroom is sea facing and extends onto a patio overlooking the ocean. The second bedroom overlooks the garden and kiddies playground whilst the third bedroom allows easy access with a separate outside door leading onto the sunny stoep/patio area adjoining the barbeque area. The fully equipped open plan kitchen and living room is extended onto a sea facing patio with unobstructed view of the Inter-coastal tidal zone with a lawn right up to the border of the Nature Reserve. Similarly to Spykerklip, Drievis has a modern kitchen with appliances and utensils and also the mini Media Centre facilities.

Kleinmond forms part of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve and the Kleinmond coastline is exceptional in its range of coastal habitats and marine flora and fauna mostly due to the contrasting influences of the warm Agulhas and cold Benguela currents, which drive productivity and biodiversity along the coast. Be rejuvenated by the clean unpolluted healthy sea air often described as 'champagne air' with 'an extra molecule of oxygen'! Sandy beaches, rocky reefs, rivers and estuaries abound to provide hours of exploring and relaxing. Kleinmond boasts 2 sandy beaches. Sandown beach, or Kleinmond main beach was rewarded with Blue Flag status for the 2011 season and provides safe swimming with lifeguards on duty for most of the year, a shallow lagoon popular with kids, a restaurant with open deck for perfect sundowners, a picnic area under the milkwood trees with kiddies playpark next to the lagoon and small boats for hire to paddle around on the lagoon or view the feral horses resident at the Kleinmond marshes. Surfing is often good at the point. Sandown beach is a short 300 meter stroll away from your accommodation. The coastline offers rock and surf angling, snorkel diving, kayak fishing, spear fishing and catching West Coast Lobster (crayfish) subject to local fishing regulations. Permits can be obtained from the local post office. The area also offers various safe slipway's and harbours for easy access to the ocean by small boat. Kleinmond is part of the Cape Whale Coast - the playground and breeding zone of the ocean giants, namely the Southern Right Whales, which you can observe close-up from many vantage points, including your balcony or patio at 'Die Rotse' self catering accommodation during the months of June to November. Sightings vary between tell-tale 'blows' of mist, to courtship displays and spectacular breaching whales. Dolphins can be seen surfing the waves throughout the year. Outdoor enthusiasts will get the adrenaline pumping with a myriad of activities including sand-boarding, white water kayaking, rock climbing, abseiling and bouldering, more than 20 defined hikes and walks in Kleinmond and 26km mountain bike trail in the heart of the Kogelberg Nature Reserve.

From Cape Town: Take the N2 highway past Somerset West, turn right at the Gordon's Bay turn-off, then left at the T-junction and signboard in Gordon's Bay marked Rooi Els/ R44. Continue along the R44 scenic coastal road, past Rooi Els, Pringle Bay and Betty's Bay. After Betty's Bay cross over the Palmiet River bridge and enter Kleinmond. The R44 becomes Main Road. Continue along Main Road until you reach the Spar shopping center (on your left). Turn right into 2nd Street. Carry on towards the ocean until 1st Avenue. Turn left to find the main entrance of 'Die Rotse' Host House and Self Catering accommodation at No 7 , 1st Avenue.
