Elephant Rock guesthouse Description
The town of Kleinmond lies within the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve which supports over 1600 species of flora known as “fynbos” of which numerous are endemic. The name Kleinmond means “little river mouth”. It lies next to a lagoon at the small mouth – hence the name – of the Bot River, on a narrow strip of land. The Elephant Rock Guesthouse is located in the picturesque seaside village of Kleinmond at the foot of the Kogelberg mountains. It has six spacious and comfortable rooms, all with en suite bathrooms. On arrival, guests are led into the elegant lounge and dining room. With its beautiful paintings and chandelier, this part of the house has a wonderful ambience. The rich wooden floors also add to its opulent atmosphere. Each of our comfortable rooms leads onto a beautiful, safe and secure courtyard. Adjacent to the courtyard is a splash pool. There is also a lovely covered patio with a big fireplace which is perfect for enjoying a traditional South African barbeque. Every room is decorated with lovely antique furniture, but also boast modern conveniences such as Wi-Fi internet access, a television, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and hairdryer. The Elephant Rock Guesthouse is named after the wellknown rock formation just outside of Kleinmond, which depicts a profile of an elephant. It’s other claim to fame is that this historic building was once the old police station of Kleinmond. The “guests” of a decade ago were prisoners who were locked in to stay on the premises! Today’s guests, however, will not recognise the cells when they enjoy the comfort and beauty of these rooms.
Nestling at the foot of the Kogelberg Mountain Range, Kleinmond borders on the KOGELBERG BIOSPHERE RESERVE which is home to 1600 species of indigenous plants. The reserve was recently declared a World Heritage Area. The picturesque town of Kleinmond also forms part of the Overberg Whale Coast, which includes places like Hermanus and Gansbaai to the East.
