KARIEGA GAME RESERVE Description
This malaria-free “Big-5” family owned and operated private Game Reserve comprises nearly 9000 hectares of pristine wilderness that spans across 5 different eco-systems (riverine forest, valley bushveld, savannah grasslands, fynbos and acacia woodlands). The reserve is home to more than 25 species of game including Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo, White Rhino, Hippo, Hyena, Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Nyala, Kudu, Warthog and a variety of other Antelope and more than 280 species of birds amongst which are high soaring Martial, Crowned and Fish Eagles which nest on the Reserve. Kariega prides itself in the abundance of general game and birdlife supplementing the “Big-5”. A unique feature is the ability to walk freely and safely amongst the game in an area of the reserve which excludes the dangerous “Big-5” animals. GUEST ACCOMMODATION: Accommodation is offered in 4 separate luxury Lodges:  RIVER LODGE: River Lodge is a 5-Star quality Lodge built on the banks of the Bushmans River and comprises 10 superbly appointed spacious, air-conditioned thatched suites. The Lodge, which overhangs the river, offers exclusivity, comfort and spectacular views and includes a stunning outdoor pool Satellite TV in main Lodge. Unique features include boating, excellent river fishing and crabbing. No children 10 years and under. (River Lodge is one of a kind and is ideal for FIT’s and small groups looking for that 5-Star safari experience.)  UKHOZI LODGE: Exclusive Lodge which accommodates 20 guests in 10 superbly appointed luxury air-conditioned suites, crafted from log with modern bathrooms and private decks. Each suite has it’s own private plunge pool. The Lodge boasts unique African-style lounges, restaurant and boma with an outdoor pool. Satellite TV in main lodge. No children 10 years and under. (Ukhozi Lodge is ideal for FIT’s and small groups who are looking for that little bit extra in terms of luxury and exclusivity.)  MAIN LODGE: A total of 21 spacious and luxurious log-constructed chalets, with all bedrooms en-suite and air-conditioned, and some with private pools and all with private viewing decks which offer intimate contact with nature and complete privacy. AREA INFORMATION
LOCATION: Situated in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, at the end of South Africa’s famous Garden Route. The Reserve incorporates the Kariega and Bushmans Rivers, is 14kms from Kenton-on-Sea and 141kms from Port Elizabeth.
KARIEGA GAME RESERVE Directions
DIRECTIONS:  By air: Port Elizabeth airport is only 80 minutes drive from Kariega.  By road from Port Elizabeth : Kariega Main Lodge, Ukhozi Lodge and The Homestead (Main Reception) Travel along the N2 from Port Elizabeth towards Grahamstown and choose one of 2 alternative routes: Route 1 : The coastal route on the R72 towards Port Alfred, via Alexandria to Kenton-on-Sea, where you turn inland and proceed for 14 kms on the R343. Route 2 : Proceed on the N2 towards Grahamstown for about 110 km and turn right before reaching Grahamstown onto the tarred road (R343) to Salem and Kenton-on-Sea for a distance of 32 kms. River Lodge Travel along the N2 from Port Elizabeth towards Grahamstown and take the R72 turn-off towards Port Alfred via Alexandria, The turnoff to River Lodge is signposted and is exactly 15 kms beyond Alexandria.
