The old sheep shearing barn has been converted into modern luxurious chalets(3 bedroom & 2 bathrooms each) which between them can accommodate up to 20 guests either self-catering or on a catered basis.
Kinmel Mountain Retreat is the perfect gateway to the Tiffendell Ski Resort, a mere 20 to 30 min drive away. We are indeed one of the closest lodges to Tiffendell on the Rhodes approach. Even closer than Rhodes itself.
Kinmel and surrounding areas is a nature lovers paradise. the magnificent mountains, pristine rivers with it's rock pools and waterfalls, open space with crisp mountain air offers the perfect getaway. We offer something for everyone, from old to young.
Activities include, fly- fishing for trout in our very own stretch of the Bellriver as well as approx. 200 km of waters in the area, boasting some of the best fishing in the country.
Hiking in the mountains from short leisurely strolls to 1 to 2 day hikes through the mountains. Mountain biking, 4 X 4 ing and quad biking. Star-gazing, bird watching, picnicking, swimming in the river or playing in the rock pools.
In addition this area were once home to South Africas first people, the San, as is evidenced by the many rock art sites found in this region, these can be viewed by appointment. During December to February our alpine wild flowers are truly beautifull and the area also boasts with the huighest navigable mountain pass in South Africa, the Naude's nek pass.
Definitely well worth visiting.
Kinmel Guest Farm & Lodge Directions
Travel via the N6 to Aliwal North. Turn left towards Lady Grey and Barkley East. In Barkley East take the R396 towards Rhodes. Upon arrival in Rhodes drive straight through on the Naudes nek Maclear road. Just 1.5 km out of Rhodes you will see our sign boards where you will turn right into the farm Kinmel.
