Last B&B, which opened for business in January 2010, is in Strathmore Park on the outskirts of Dundee, KZN 'The Gateway to The Battlefields'. Strathmore Park is a quiet leafy suburb of Dundee which is close to all the local shops, restaurants, banking facilities etc in the town, that is located less than 10 minutes away.
Accomodation
The B&B accomodation consists of three rooms, all of which are beautifully presented and all of which are en suite. All guest rooms are located separate from the main house. Two of the rooms (Kudu & Buffalo) are under a thatched roof. Kudu & Buffalo are twin bedded rooms one of which (Kudu) can be converted to provide a king-sized bed. The beds in Kudu & Buffalo are all extra length. The third guest room (Garden Room) provides a double bed. All the rooms are equipped with high quality beds & bedding to ensure an exceptional nights sleep. All rooms are also equipped with complimentary tea/coffee making facilities, hair dryer, digital safe, cooling fan & radio.
Adjacent to the guest accomodation is an entertainment area which includes a swimming pool & thatched lapha. The lapha houses braai (barbecue) facilities, a trust bar & satellite television.
There is ample secure parking located within the property, access to which is via electric gates with a controller provided to guests to allow them convenient entry & exit.
On site there is internet access, including Skype, available for guest use.
AREA INFORMATION
Dundee is an historic town which is conveniently located with good road links to the KZN coasts, the Drakensburg Mountains, Mpumalanga (the location of the world famous Kruger Safari Park) & Johannesburg. The town itself has a number of major supermarkets, clothes shops, hardware stores, cafes etc and all the major banks. In the area are a number of excellent restaurants including ones located on game parks offering a wonderful eating experience.
The first engagement of the 2nd Boer War occurred @ Talana Hill which is to be found on the outskirts of Dundee. At the site of the battle is the excellent Talana Museum with craft & souvenir shops on site.
Dundee is conveniently situated between Johannesburg & Durban and close to The Drakensburg Mountains. Road links are excellent to all parts of South Africa.
In close proximity to Dundee & readily accessible, are numerous battlefield sites from : The Anglo Zulu War (Rourkes Drift, Isandlwana, Kambula etc), The Anglo Boer Wars (Talana Hill, Seige of Ladysmith, Spion Kop, Majuba etc) & Boer/Zulu conflicts (Blood River, Bloukrans etc). In addition there are also a number of quality game reserves (including 'Big Five'), excellent fishing, bird watching, cycle routes, canoeing, bowls etc. There are also a number of excellent 18 hole golf courses in the area, including Dundee GC which is less than 5 minutes drive from Last Post B&B.
Last Post Directions
From Johannesburg take N3 highway south towards Durban shortly after Van Reenens Pass take the R103 to Ladysmith.
From Durban take N3 highway north towards Johannesburg, exit at Bergville toll plaza & take the N11 to Ladysmith. From Ladysmith take N11 towards Newcastle after 23kms turn right on R602 & follow signs to Dundee.
From Dundee town centre take Victoria Street towards Wasbank. Fouche Street is a right turn off Victoria Street on the outskirts of town. Last Post B&B is the last premises on the left in Fouche Street.
