The Merwida Mansion was built in the 1960’s by the late Cecil Morgan, for residential purposes. It was renovated and enlarged in 1978, over a period of 2 years, whilst serving as a home to Carel and Cecile van der Merwe and their 5 children. It is known that the mistress of the manor used the setting of the Classical Motion Picture, Gone with The Wind, starring Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh as an inspiration for this typical Colonial American mansion. This mansion was well known by the locals and “famous”. A visit to Merwida has always been an exceptional experience, where you were received and hosted in style and glamour. The “olde worlde charm” of the property extended itself to the perfect location to host romantic unforgettable weddings and functions. This potential was realised by Dianne Slabolepszy, who in 1996 started renting the property from the van der Merwe family, and developed it into the very well-known and loved Merwida Country Lodge, which has hosted hundreds of weddings, functions, conferences etc for the next 13 years. October 2009 experienced a new breath for Merwida, as the new owners, Tania and Tanielle Human, a mother and daughter team, purchased the business from Dianne and aptly changed the name to Merwida Country Manor. It is anticipated that the manor will remain a reckoning force in the Wedding Venue market, where we will constantly be improving our offerings, service and facilities. We are also anticipating a general improvement to our conference facilities and accommodation.

This unique mansion is nestled between the vineyards on a wine estate outside Rawsonville, a mere 50 minutes drive from Cape Town. Famous for its hot springs and award-winning wines, the picturesque town of Rawsonville lies hidden amidst the vineyards of the Breede Valley. Rawsonville boasts thirteen wine cellars in a radius of 10 km, making Rawsonville ideal for experiencing good hospitality and wines. There are also a number of scenic cycling routes that take you through vineyards and past cellars.

On the N1, towards Johannesburg, head through the Hugenot Tunnel and continue for about 10km until you reach the sign indicted Rawsonville to the right. (Turn off is right next to the weigh bridge.) Continue on road for about 7km until another sign indicates Rawsonville to the right. Follow the road into the town of Rawsonville, driving past the police station and ending at the STOP sign. Turn right and drive through Rasonville, over 2 bridges and then turn right at the Merwida Country Manor sign.
