Somerset West The economic hub of the Helderberg area , this is also where the private hospital is situated. The Vergelegen Medi City offers 24 hour service, and a wealth of doctors and specialists have their rooms in, or adjacent to the clinic. The Helderberg Nature Reserve is set at the foot of the Hottentots Holland Mountains, a variety of footpaths and a tea room amongst an abundance of wild flowers. The Vodacom Golf village is a great asset to the area, close to Somerset Mall. A Golfing Range, known for its friendly staff, there is also an excellent restaurant that serves anything from sandwiches to Sunday Carvery's. Shopping in the Strand Area There are two suburban shopping centers situated very close to the Greenways Estate, both situated in Gordonsbay Road. The O K Basaars Food store is located in the Southside Shopping Centre, two blocks away, on the corner of Gordonsbay Road and George Street. The centre also has a hardware store, pharmacy, liquor store and laundromat, as well as Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Steers Fast Food outlet. The Dorpsmeent Centre, at the corner of Mills and Gordonsbay Road, is only a few minutes away, towards Gordonsbay. There is a Pick and Pay grocery store in the centre, as well as many other useful shops: a Postman ( posting, faxing, copies) pharmacy, laundromat etc. The main Shopping centre in the Strand / Somerset West area is Somerset Mall – off Broadway road, an up to date Shopping Mall with all the retail shops represented. There is also an entertainment area with Ten Pin Bowling and Ster Kinekor Movie Theatres The other Shopping Centre is on the left hand side of the R44 towards Stellenbosch - the Waterstone Centre - set amongst big trees, it has the feel of a country Centre - Woolworth Food, Pick and Pay, Clicks, and many restaurants and coffee shops. Banking and Atm's The banks in the Strand are located in the centre of town, either in Beach Road, or in Main Road. Somerset Mall also offers all the banking, as well as foreign Exchange Services. From Cape Town international Airport take the N2 Motorway towards Somerset West. Travel about 26km and then take the exit marked "R44 Stellenbosch/Broadway". Turn right over the motorway towards Strand. Drive about 2km past 2 sets of traffic lights. About 200 metres past the second set of lights turn right towards Strand (Beach Road). Drive along the whole length of the beachfront for about 5km. The road goes around a traffic circle and continues along the beach. On your right you will find the entrance to Greenways. Follow the signs to Golf Beach.
