Traveller's Rest Farm is 34 km from Clanwilliam on the Wupperthal road, over the spectacular Pakhuis Pass in an area with ruggedly beautiful landscapes and fascinating rock formations.
Koos and Haffie Strauss farm here with essential oils (from rose geranium), sutherlandia (kankerbos) for medicinal purposes, grenadillas, sweetcorn and rooibos tea in a place with a long and rich history.
Haffie was born and raised on the farm and pioneered the provision of holiday accommodation in this area of the Agter-Pakhuis. The farm was named after the fact that long before the self-catering cottages and restaurant was built, passing travellers would outspan and water their horses and oxen before tackling the Pakhuis Pass or the dry Karoo to the north.
The sense of history precedes even those years and a fascinating glimpse can be experienced of the world of the San, who inhabited the area for thousands of years, by visiting the rock art sites they left behind.
Discover a place where you can truly enjoy the wide open spaces, the fascinating and surprisingly varied plant and animal life, the rich legacy of the San, inspiring night skies and so much more.
