Traveller's Rest Farm is 34 km from Clanwilliam on the Wupperthal road, over the spectacular Pakhuis Pass in an area with ruggedly beautiful landscapes and fascinating rock formations. Koos and Haffie Strauss farm here with essential oils (from rose geranium), sutherlandia (kankerbos) for medicinal purposes, grenadillas, sweetcorn and rooibos tea in a place with a long and rich history. Haffie was born and raised on the farm and pioneered the provision of holiday accommodation in this area of the Agter-Pakhuis. The farm was named after the fact that long before the self-catering cottages and restaurant was built, passing travellers would outspan and water their horses and oxen before tackling the Pakhuis Pass or the dry Karoo to the north. Turn off the N7 to Clanwilliam. Continue straight (main street of Clanwilliam - turn off to the right) over the Jan Dissel River bridge and continue straight on the road to Calvinia.
