Rhodes is located on the banks of the Bell River in the southernmost end of the Drakensberg range 60km on a gravel road from Barkly East. The entire village of Rhodes is a National Monument proclaimed in 1997 to conserve the Victorian streetscape and maintain the character of the village. It is 30km from the summit of the Naudesnek Pass, the highest in South Africa. Although +-300 species of hoverfly have been identified throughout the world, Naudesnek is also home to the only species of its kind, Pelloloma nigrescens. It is unique in that it survives at such a high altitude where ultra-violet radiation is much higher than at lower altitudes.

From Barkly East, take the R396 to Rhodes. On arrival, turn right at the first intersection into De Wet Street. Continue to second corner. Turn right into Vorster Street and continue for +-250m to our front door. From Maclear, take the R396 to Rhodes via the Pot River Pass, Elands Heights and the Naudesnek Pass. On arrival in Rhodes, follow the main road past the SAPS station. Turn right into Muller Street. Continue and cross the bridge over the Tinternspruit. Immediately after the bridge, turn left into De Wet Street, second right into Vorster and +-250m to our front door.
