False Bay, the body of water between Cape Point and the Overberg, is home to qaint little fishing villages, a pristine shoreline, good surf spots, and friendly locals. The name derives from early explorers who thopught it was Table bay, witch was false. The water is generally warmer in Flase bay than its on the other side of the Cape of Good Hope.
The stretch of land is home to Simonstown, the headquarters of the South African Navy. The area also borders on the Peninsula itself, and all the natural wonders, hikes, wildlife and fynbos it offers the discerning visitor. Muizenburg, one of the most popular surfing spots on the peninsula is around the corner, and the coastline is full of seaside towns, all the way to Strand, before you get to the beautiful region of the Overberg.
The area is very popular during summer and is one of the hotspots for holiday makers coming to the Western Cape. The area is famous for having a population of Great White Sharks, and altough attacks is scarse, it is not uncommon. This however doesnt stop the holiday makers of speniding their days on the beach, lounging in the sun and in the sea.
