The Kalahari and Diamond Fields region of the Northern Cape is a semi desert landscape that includes the famous Augrabies Falls and adjoining national park. The Diamond mining town of Kimberley is also located in the region with it’s the intimidating “Big Hole”, that once laid claims to be the biggest hole excavated by hand.

The Kalahai is huge sandy area the takes up most parts of Botswana, a piece of Namibia and then also the Northern Cape. The Kalahari is home to an interesting array of mammals and plants, and also the Kalahari National Park. The region has, like most of the Northern Cape, an interesting aesthetic that inspires and relaxes. The local San people have live in the area for thousands of years.

The Orange River flows past the region and creates a natural border with Namibia. The river is popular for hikes and canoeing, and is also the source for the Augrabies Falls; witch draws lots of visitors through out the year. The Kalahari and Diamond Fields can get very hot during the day and freezing cold during night, owing to its setting.

Upington, one of the bigger towns in the region, borders on the Orange River is the prefered place to start your hike and canoe trip from. The locals are all friendly down to earth people and will make you feel welcome for the duration of your stay.
