The Transgariep & Goldfields region of the Free State makes up the southern part of the province and is home to an agricultural haven of endless crop field’s. The area includes the capital of the province, Bloemfontein, as well as the famous Gariep Dam. The landscape becomes more “Karoo-like” the further one moves south.
The Goldfields, witch includes
the other city in the Free State, Welkom has gold deposits that are only rivaled by the reefs in Gauteng. The area in general is farmland; witch is evident by the maize fields and livestock that fill in the details in the wide open spaces. The size of the blue sky and flat landscape, affords the discerning visitor a real escape from the city. Amazing afternoon thunderstorms is an experience that occurs regularly during the summer.
The Free State province is centrally located and the Transgariep & Goldfields region is the ideal place to base your journey from. The Province borders the most of the other provinces and when passing from north to south or east to west, you’re bound to come across this piece of the country.
Bloemfontein is a decent city, that has
enough to see and do to keep you busy during your stay, but the real magic is found in the rural areas, where your mind will wonder into the distant as the hospitality of the locals will make you feel welcome. The establishments in the area are value for money, and you won’t be disappointed.
