Beitbridge is the most Southerly town in Zimbabwe. The town lies about 1 kilometer from the bridge that crosses the Limpopo River and into South Africa. The border post, also called Beitbridge, is located there. The border post is the busiest in southern Africa and one of the busiest in the world.
Beitbridge is in
Matabelaland South, a province of Zimbabwe. A large part of the province is part of the Hwange National Park. The reserve is the largest in Zimbabwe, and is home to 105 species of mammals. The large population of African Wild Dogs in the park is thought to be one of the biggest in Africa.
The town is the gateway to the beautiful country of Zimbabwe. Routes to
Bulawayo, Harare, Johannesburg and Pretoria all meet here. The bridge is built over the Limpopo River that is infested with crocodiles, and swimming is not recommended.
