Home, Sosusvlei Travel Guide

Sossusvlei is a tourist destination in the Southern part of the Namib Desert.  The Namib Desert is thought to be the oldest desert in the world. This arid region is home to fascinating creatures and vegetation. The Sossusvlei is essentially a clay pan with in the Namib-Naukluft National Park, the biggest National Park in Africa.

The region is uniquely beautiful with its red sand dunes and the dunes within the Park are the biggest in the world. The dunes rise up to 300 meters from the ground and can be quite intimidating. Sand boarding is quite popular in the Namib Desert.

Close to the Sossusvlei are the Dead Vlei and Hidden Vlei clay pans. These locations are also recommended as they have intriguing visual features that keeps hikers flocking to the region year after year. The Dead Vlei, with its dead camel thorn trees scattered across the landscape, gives of an eerie feeling.

The Sesriem Canyon is the gateway to this magical piece of the world, and a stop there is well worth your time and hiking.
