The small town of Okahandja north of Windhoek has an interesting history. The town is locally known as the garden town of Namibia. The town serves as a stop over for those travelling north and want to miss the city’s hustle and bustle. The town was the location for battles between the Herero and Nama people. This is commemorated every year on the last weekend of August.

The Gross Barmen Hot Springs Resort is about 25 kilometers from town and is quite an attraction due to its hot springs. Other attractions include the craft market that sells curios and crafts from the craftsmen and women from the surrounding areas. The town is highly recommended for those on a northbound journey.
