EXPLORE Arniston

Arniston is a quaint seaside town in the Overberg region, located on the Cape South coast. It is near the southernmost tip of Africa, just north of Cape Agulhas. The charming fishing town showcases many modest cottages and houses, which lie along the soft beaches. The traditional white and clay-looking cottages are a distinctive feature of Arniston.

Arniston is known for its rich history. The name Arniston is that of a ship that sunk in the area in 1815. The Bredasdorp Shipwreck Museum is a great place to visit if you are wanting to experience and gain more knowledge on the history of Arniston.

Arniston’s beaches are picturesque, with soft sand dunes and clear waters, and photographers flock to capture this beauty. The beaches are safe for swimming and great for surfing. The main beach is all along the main road and is great for kids, because of its shallow and warm water. Arniston is also known for being an excellent fishing spot and is perfect for snorkelling and diving. If water-activities are not what you are after, Arniston offers many other activities such as mountain biking, hiking, bird watching or even getting a glimpse of the southern right whale, which can often be spotted migrating to and from the Antarctic in the winter months.

Enjoy the scenery of Arniston by strolling along the main road toward the harbour and watch the fishing boats go out. A walk to Waenhuiskrans caves is a must during low tide.

Arniston accommodation consists of charming self-catering units, ideal for families and individuals wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
