EXPLORE Darling

Darling is a small farming town in the West Coast district of the Western Cape, South Africa.  It is situated just a mere 75km from Cape Town, nearby Yzerfontein and also enjoys being part of the Wild Flower Coast.

The town’s Darling Wildflower Society has celebrated the wildflowers by hosting an annual Darling Wildflower festival since 1917. Be sure not to miss this amazing event should you be in the town at the time.  Darling is a lovely and historic town that takes you back in time. The town is also famous for the role it played during Word War II in helping the South African Navy to secure the area against the German U-boat that were approaching. Upon your arrival, you are met with quaint Victorian houses and buildings that will sweep you off your feet.

To explore the history of the town, a visit to the Darling Museum is a must. Travellers will get the opportunity to marvel at the collection of large old agricultural machines exhibited in the museum. In summer, Darling hosts a series of music festivals in and around the surrounding farms.  A day at one of these festivals is truly an unforgettable experience as people from other surrounding areas and different cultures come together to enjoy the art of music.

The winemaking industry in Darling is beginning to grow and one can enjoy wine tasting tours at the wine farms nearby.  On the first Saturday of every month, there are morning markets where fresh fruit and vegetables, confectionaries, groceries, arts, and crafts are sold. The Darling bird route is another attraction to enjoy in the town. Here you can view several species of bird including South Africa’s national bird, the Blue Crane.

Darling accommodation is available in guest houses, bed and breakfasts as well as self-catering units to ensure an enjoyable and memorable holiday.

What a beautiful Lodge, excellent service (5 star), location is one of the best in this country. We received outstanding service from a team that exceeded every need we had as a family. The breakfast is outstanding and they catered for my children's needs which included items not on the normal breakfast menu.
