EXPLORE East London

Friendly locals, warm Indian Ocean and pristine beaches that stretch for miles along the seaboard is what can be expected from East London.

East London, affectionately called “Buffalo City” by locals, lies on the south east coast of South Africa and is the only river port in the country. With the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and a sub-tropical climate, this sought after destination plays host to local and international travellers alike, all year round.

East London attracts sun-worshippers, surfers, swimmers and water-sport fanatics to its fine white sand beaches and warm waters. Nahoon Reef is well known for its surf and hosts annual international surfing competitions. With easy access to the Wild Coast and Amatola Mountains, Buffalo City is the perfect location from which to explore the eastern region of South Africa.

The Gateway to the wild coast and the sunshine coast, East London is the perfect family holiday destination with pristine beaches and refreshingly friendly locals, there are plenty activities available. Visit the natural history museum, considered to be one of the most interesting natural and cultural museums in the country, is home to the only dodo egg in existence aswell as the remains of a Coelacanth, a prehistoric fish thought to be extinct. Go sand-boarding on Bonza Bay’s dunes and visit the Lion Park where you can find all kinds of wildlife, including Lions and lion cubs. The aquarium is also a great outing, it is the oldest aquarium in the country. The Queens Park Zoological Gardens is also great for family trips with a great zoo and wonderful botanical gardens, a unique display of the fauna and flora found in this region.

East London is one of the Eastern Cape’s most attractive seaboards with sweeping beaches that are unpolluted, uncrowded and extend for miles. It is for this reason why water-sports such as water-skiing, boardsailing and boating are popular activities. Fishermen can also get their fix from the river mouths, lagoons and gullies that are on offer.

Accommodation in East London consists of mainly guest-houses, bed and breakfasts and self-catering accommodation as the town has only two hotels.
