EXPLORE Jeffreys Bay

Jeffreys Bay, often referred to as “J-Bay” by locals, is the pinnacle of a surfer town consisting primarily of surfing, sunshine and beach. Rated as one of the ten best surf spot in the world, surfers from around the world come to enjoy the surf and the easy-going lifestyle.

A beach paradise, situated a mere 80km from Port Elizabeth and 32km from St Francis Bay, Jeffreys Bay is a town with amazing beaches, warm waters, spectacular surf and reefs and sunsets that never disappoint. The beaches here are safe with lifeguards on duty and most of the main beaches. Water-sports of all kinds are indulged in here, from surfing to bodyboarding, stand-up paddle and canoeing. Jet-skiing is a big attraction in peak holiday months that only takes place on Dolphin Beach (the main beach of the town).

For the less adventurous, dolphin and whale watching are a big past time with various look-out points where information boards can be found providing detailed information on these graceful mammals. In addition to this, strolling along the beach and picking up shells is also a popular activity while watching the sun-rise or sun-set. There are a variety of local and international shells on displays at the Shell Museum and many shell shops to purchase an array of items that have been hand-made from shells.

Jeffreys Bay is bordered on both sides by nature reserves and rivers - The Kabeljous and Seekoei estuaries and the Noorsekloof nature reserve found within the town. Attracting many visitors for its excellent fishing and bird-watching opportunities, the reserves are popular attractions. Mountain bike rides, beach horse rides and game farm horse rides, river cruises, quad biking and hiking trails are all additional activities that Jeffreys Bay is known for. There are also a variety of game farms that can be visited, all within close proximity included Lombardini Game Reserve, Addo Elephant Park, Sea View Lion Park and Kragga Kamma Game Reserve. Africa Dawn, a bird sanctuary is also a popular place to visit.

Located at the end of the Garden Route, Jeffreys Bay is an ideal place from which to visit a variety of Garden Route favourites including the Tsitsikamma Nature Reserve and all that this region offers. The world’s highest bungee jump at Bloukrans is just a short drive away, as are the Storms River Canopy Tours and Tsitsikamma Zip-Lining, along with many other fun activities. The Lady Slipper Mountain and the Baviaanskloof too are in close proximity.

There is an abundance of accommodation in Jeffreys Bay, considering that it is a famous holiday destination and home to the world famous surfing competition, the J-bay Open. With wonderful weather all year round, Jeffreys Bay is a destination to be visited at any time of the year. There is a variety of accommodation, ranging from one hotel to many guest-houses, self-catering apartments and homes and bed and breakfasts. Jeffreys Bay is also well known for its backpacker’s accommodation. Catering to the needs of all travellers, Jeffreys Bay awaits your toes in its sand.

What a beautiful Lodge, excellent service (5 star), location is one of the best in this country. We received outstanding service from a team that exceeded every need we had as a family.
