Mafikeng is the capital city of the North West Province in South Africa and it lies right on the border of Botswana.

The city makes a very good stopover offering great facilities and amenities for visitors travelling to Botswana. Mafikeng is well-known for its game reserve which is more than 4000 hectares of grassland and acacia thorn shrub. Wildlife in this wilderness is abundant and the rhino, gemsbok, buffalo and many other animals can be spotted roaming around freely. Birding is also enjoyed in Mafikeng as the city boasts over 200 bird species.
A great place of interest in Mafikeng is the Wondergat Diving, a cave with a natural dolomite that offers excellent diving opportunities. Since Mafikeng is also a very historical city, a visit to the Mafikeng Museum is worthwhile.
