EXPLORE Patensie

Largely a citrus producing community, Patensie is but an hour’s drive fromPort Elizabeth and is considered to be a corruption of sorts in the Hottentot expressions, ‘where the cattle lie’. Considering the easy access to the Baviaanskloof and to nearby game farms, Patensie is the ideal destination from which to explore parts of the Eastern Cape. 

The Cockscomb Mountain is in perfect view from Patensie as are its jagged crests that resemble a rooster’s comb. If strolling past the thousands of citrus trees is not something of interest, the Kouga Dam lies 25km from the town and is a great place to spend an afternoon picnic. The Gamtoos River is ideal for fishing and lazy boat cruises and is the place from which to view the cliff along the river known as Queen Victoria’s bust. Game drives and wildlife viewing on various game farms situated in and around Patensie are also great activities to be enjoyed by the whole family.
