Stonecutters Lodge, (graded 4 stars) is positioned in a beautiful setting between mountains and river between Dullstroom & Lydenburg. Whether you are planning a holiday or weekend away, organising a small conference or looking for excellent trout fishing, Stonecutters will accommodate you in superlative style. All the accommodation is fully serviced and equipped including selected DSTV channels, Stone Manor houses the reception rooms, dining area, the pub and the conference boardroom. A large fireplace dominates the double-volume lounge and dining area. The Cat’s Whiskers pub, with its cosy fireplace and DSTV can be a great place to meet new friends. Stone Manor is set in a natural garden where a bubbling waterfall cascades into an indigenous pond. The accommodation comprises family houses, Stone Cottage and the Trout House. The Cobbles studios are ideal for couples. Stonecutters offers a base for well-known tourist attractions and is an ideal stopover for Kruger Park. There is a variety of accommodation, with a total of eleven double rooms - Trout House has 3 rooms, Stone Cottage has 2 rooms and Cobbles studios one room (six Cobbles studios available). All accommodation has self-catering facilities, and the excellent restaurant in Stone Manor offers breakfast and dinner. Cats' Whiskers pub open in the evenings. CONFERENCES: Stonecutters is ideal for exclusive management meetings, strategic planning sessions and team-building getaways. The boardroom is well equipped, including data projector for big screen projection of presentations, videos, DVDs and DSTV. Up to 20 delegates can be seated in a variety of configurations. Day conferences are catered for. A comprehensive office provides backup -photocopying and printing as well as fax and e-mail facilities. There is a selection of varied team-building activities to choose from. With the excellent waters available at the lodge, a fly-fishing clinic with expert tuition can be arranged including a competition with prizes. FLY-FISHING: The Stonecutter’s waters (two dams and 3 km of river) are fully managed and this, coupled with a generous restocking programme, ensures excellent fishing. 'Catch and Release’ is encouraged for all river fishing.
Just a short drive from the lodge is the quaint town of Dullstroom with it’s many pubs, restaurants and quirky shops offering a unique view of country life. For the ultimate in relaxation, beauty therapy is offered in a tranquil environment at an excellent local Spa. The Bird of Prey Centre just beyond Dullstroom gives a fascinating insight into bird rehabilitation and raptor behaviour as well as displays of falconry. Horse riding and quad-bike riding are available nearby. Lydenburg, 15 minutes from Stonecutters Lodge, provides practical shopping for those requiring provisions. Visit the small Lydenburg museum displaying the Lydenburg Heads, an early example of African sculpture and a display of Voortrekker memorabilia. There are many tourist attractions that are within reach of Stonecutters Lodge on a day trip: Lydenburg is at the foot of the Longtom Pass, an historic and spectacular route leading to Pilgrims Rest, Blyde River Canyon, God’s Window and the many waterfalls and look-out points along the way. Stonecutters Lodge is also an ideal stopover for the Kruger National Park (just two and a half hours away) and the many private game lodges in the Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces.
Stonecutters Lodge Directions
From Johannesburg & Pretoria Take the N12 or the N4 to Witbank / Middelburg. Continue on the N4 towards Nelspruit through the toll plaza and exit the highway at the turnoff to Belfast (approximately 64 kms from Middelburg). At the third 4-way stop in Belfast turn right at the Dullstroom signboard. Continue through Dullstroom towards Lydenburg and 35 km from Dullstroom there is a Stonecutters Lodge signboard on the left. Turn left onto this one kilometer dirt road, proceed through the gates, and follow the signage to the car park in front of the office at Stone Manor. From O.R. Tambo International Airport. Take the R21 to Boksburg, and then follow the signs to Witbank on the N12. Proceed as above. From Nelspruit Take the R37 from Nelspruit over the Longtom Pass following the signs to Lydenburg. At the 4-way stop with Longtom Nissan on the right and Caltex on the left - turn left into Viljoen Street. Travel along Viljoen for about 3 km at the 3-way stop, turn right to Dullstroom (R540) and travel another 20 km. Pass the Witklip road and travel another 700 m and the sign for Stonecutters Lodge is on the right hand side. There is just one kilometer of dirt road to Stonecutters gates. Follow the signboards to the office. By Air Stonecutters Lodge can also be reached with a 45-minute charter flight to the nearby Lydenburg Airfield (coordinates S25’ 06.0’’ E30’ 25.0’’). The airfield is 1363 x 46m and is grassed (altitude 4820 feet; call sign FALL). Please inform Stonecutters Lodge of approximate time of arrival so that a lift can be arranged.
