Tau Game Lodge Description
Tau is a South African luxury safari lodge situated on the far northern border of South Africa, in malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve, the 4th largest game reserve in the country. 27 major species of game roam this South African nature reserve, making Tau Game Lodge the ideal place for a safari holiday, offering Big 5 game safaris and bird-watching safaris. The thirty luxury chalets of Tau Game Lodge include 6 deluxe chalets, 20 standard chalets, a family unit and a family suite, both made up of two chalets joined by an interleading lounge. Children of all ages are welcome at Tau Game Lodge, with the Tau Cubz Club offering children under the age of 6 years a shorter kiddies’ safari and fun activities. The Tau Convention Centre is ensures hassle free conferencing with state-of-the-art equipment, while the Tau Spa Oasis is a calm sanctuary where one can indulge your senses in a unique fusion of therapies designed to replenish and soothe body, mind and soul. For the more eco-concious our Tau Tree Fund initiative gives the opportunity to contribute toward retaining and strengthening the ecology of the area. With a selection of indigenous trees to choose from, guests can plant a tree, while learning a little more about the medicinal purposes, African folklore and ecology of the tree. The activity is documented through photographs and a plaque.
Madikwe It is situated in the North West Province and is bordered by Botswana to the North, the spectacular Dwarsberg Mountains to the South and the Marico River to the East. The reserve comprises a diverse range of habitats from acacia savannah to riverine. TAU GAME LODGE is part of a unique wildlife project. In 1992, Madikwe Game Reserve was chosen as the site of Operation Phoenix, the biggest ever government-sponsored game relocation programme in Africa. It involved re-stocking and conserving flora and wildlife, which had long disappeared from the region. Ten thousand animals of 27 major species have been re-introduced to the reserve over a six-year period, with animals coming from various reserves and breeding centres. Northwest Parks has adhered to a strict policy of re-introducing only those species, which originally occurred in the area.
Tau Game Lodge Directions
From Pretoria take the N4 direction Rustenburg. From Johannesberg travel via Fourways to Hartebeestpoortdam, following the signs to Suncity to begin with and once on the N4 continue this toll road to Rustenburg. Continue on the N4 through Swartruggens and on to Zeerust. In Zeerust, turn right at President Street onto the R 47 to Gaborone. You'll reach the first Madikwe Game Reserve gate approximately 90km from Zeerust - pass all the gates indicating Madikwe and travel toward the Kopfontein Border Post going to Gaborone Turn right onto the Derdepoort Road just before the border post and follow the road for approximately 10 km to the Tau Gate.
