Twitcher's cottage is well-known in the Magaliesberg area for its prolific birdlife. Of course afterwards, there's a long shady verandah where you can relax with your feathered friends, knowing that man's best friend is off the leash and perfectly enclosed within your own fenced, grassy field space. Down its own quaint farm road and separate from the main farm (as far away as two city blocks), Twitcher's Cottage is a pet-friendly, stand-alone, country gem, that's fully equipped to handle 4 guests ( 2-legged children at half-price and 4-footed kids for free). There's a sun-drenched bedroom and lounge, with gently sloping mountain/bushveld outlook, a spacious kitchen with the best bird views (makes washing up time fly) and a stylish bathroom with solar-heated bath and shower. And of course, the famous verandah, where nothing ever happens without the accompaniment of birdsong or the contented snores of a well-walked dog. Twitchers Cottage's picturesque hectares (outside your fence – just open your gate) are bordered by a meandering river at one end and a mountain slope at the other. Not only does this make for marvellous walks, picnics, hikes and nose-quivering pet adventures. But because the farm lies in the diverse ecological zone called the Bankenveld, between the cold Highveld (mainly grass and more typical of Johannesburg and Pretoria and its outskirts) and the hot bushveld savannah (that stretches as far as the Kruger National Park eventually), you'll find the flora and fauna of this area breath-takingly abundant. With a wide range of birdlife, from predatory birds, to forest, veld and water birds (not forgetting the neighbouring ostriches) to small game wandering around the farm - you may find the kudu, steenbok, and jackals a little shy, but vervet monkeys more than make up for it, as well as squirrels and mongooses. An amazing sight and wonderful playground for exploring dogs and children awaits you at the bottom of your Twitcher's Cottage garden. Leave Magaliesburg on the R24 towards Rustenburg. Turn right towards Hekpoort on the R560 (the left turn off indicates New Thorndale). This is 7 km outside of Magaliesburg. 100 meters on the left is the farm road leading to Twitchers Cottage. ( Follow the Saamrus Guest Farm signs).
