EXPLORE Grahamstown

Grahamstown, also known as the ‘Settler City’ or the ‘City of Saints’ is located in the Eastern Cape where settlers produced some of the most exquisite architecturally designed churches and buildings in South Africa.

Whether it is their schools or the prestigious Rhodes University, Grahamstown is now known for all the students that inhabit this vibrant town as well as the Grahamstown Arts Festival which is the highlight of the annual party calendar.

The town is located close to some of the major cities like Port Elizabeth and East London as well as other small historic quaint towns worth a visit: Bathurst, Port Alfred and Kleinmond. Grahamstown is a well-known historic and artistic town featuring a rich history of early settler life in the 1820s and the traditional roots of Xhosa culture. To celebrate the arts and culture industry, the town hosts the famous National Arts Festival which is worth your time during your visit to the town.

The Thomas Baines Nature Reserve and the Great Fish River Reserve are also close by, providing Grahamstown with lots of exciting opportunities for bird watching.

Other activities to enjoy in the city include hiking on the popular Oldenburgia trail, visiting the Artificers Square, the Clock House and the oldest post box in South Africa. The National Monument and Settler Museum provide insights into South Africa’s past.

Grahamstown accommodation is known to be affordable and pocket-friendly. With a wide selection of lodges and self-catering units, be sure to book your accommodation in Grahamstown here to allow for some extra shopping indulgence.

Robberg Beach Lodge

What a beautiful Lodge, excellent service (5 star), location is one of the best in this country. We received outstanding service from a team that exceeded every need we had as a family. The breakfast is outstanding and they catered for my children's needs which included items not on the normal breakfast menu.
