Langebaan is the perfect getaway for both adrenaline seekers and those wishing to escape from the busy city.

Langebaan, located along the West Coast, is a paradise for water sports fanatics with safe waters, predictable winds and all year round sunshine. Aptly referred to as the “Jewel of the West Coast”, this picturesque town is a popular destination for its lagoon which attracts visitors and migratory birds every year.

A mere hour’s drive from Cape Town, Langebaan is the perfect weekend getaway where tranquillity, open landscapes, a variety of fauna and flora, seafood of plenty and azure-blue waters with white sandy beaches can be found. Langebaan is a world renowned destination for kite surfers, wind surfers, kayakers, fisherman and yachtsman alike. The waters and unspoiled beaches are a major attraction. With a rich cultural history, there is more than exquisite waters on offer here. The West Coast National Park, bordering on the Southern tip of the lagoon is home to the Slow Five, consisting out of: tortoises, whales, sand sharks, porcupines and dune moles. In addition, Eland, wildebeest, hartebeest, bontebok, springpbok, kudu and mountain zebra can also be seen here. Colourful displays of spring flowers too can be viewed during August and September when flowers are in full-bloom. The earliest signs of human existence on planet Earth, a human footprint, was discovered in the park on the banks of the Langebaan Lagoon in 1995 and is estimated to be 117 000years old. This regions ancient history can further be observed at the West Coast Fossil Park located minutes out of town. 

Langebaan is an internationally acclaimed Ramsar Site for its importance as a wetland and is where the world’s largest breeding colony of black harriers can be found. It is also a well knowns ornithological capital of South Africa, having recorded the largest oyster shell deposits in the world. The natural attractions of this town in addition to the exquisite cuisine that can be had at unique beach restaurants as well as the variety of entertainment options, make this a perfect holiday destination.
