Lichtenburg is a small town situated between Mafikeng and Coligny in the North West Province.
Predominantly a farming area, the town is about 200 kilometres from Johannesburg. The streets of Lichtenburg are beautifully lined with willow trees. The town was established as a diamond mining town in early 1873. In 1927 the world’s largest red diamond was discovered which brought with it an influx of miners. Travellers can learn more about the mining history by visiting the Lichtenburg Diggings Museum.
