EXPLORE Parys

Parys is a town located in the Free State along the banks of the Vaal River.

Parys is predominantly a farming town that farms tobacco, corn, cattle and sorghum, but considering its close proximity to Johannesburg, it is known as a hotspot for watersports and adventure. However, what makes this town unique and interesting, is that it lies within the oldest and the largest meteorite impact site in the world – the Vredefort Dome area. 2 billion years old, this crater created the semi-circular mountainous indentation and is considered a World Heritage Site.

This lovely town offers much to visitors, whether you are seeking adventure or culture, Parys has it. River rafting on the Vaal River and all sorts of watersports are top activities in Parys as are 4x4 routes and abseiling. Offering lovely hiking trails in the countryside that surround the town, taking a stroll allows for a different perspective of Parys while exercising and exploring the town. Home to many art and antique shops, Parys is ideal for those interested in the finer things in life. The annual Dome Adventure Festival takes place in and around Parys in November and offers music, sporting activities, fly-fishing competitions, water sports, competitions of plenty, many stalls to roam around and Dragon Boat Racing, fun for all the family to enjoy.

Accommodation in Parys includes a selection of guesthouses, bed and breakfasts and self-catering apartments or houses, all of which offer the comforts of home. Parys accommodation is widely available and caters for visitors with all kinds of budgets.

Guest Story: A perfect family beach holiday in Plettenberg Bay

Robberg Beach Lodge

What a beautiful Lodge, excellent service (5 star), location is one of the best in this country. We received outstanding service from a team that exceeded every need we had as a family. The breakfast is outstanding and they catered for my children's needs which included items not on the normal breakfast menu.
