EXPLORE Simons Town

Simons Town is South Africa’s third oldest settlement, and its quiet streets are lined with Victorian buildings, each of which with its own special history.

Set in the picturese False Bay, tt’s close proximity to Kalk Bay, Muizenberg and Cape Point Nature Reserve makes it a great home base when exploring all the attractions in and around Cape Town.

Home to South Africa’s main Naval Base, Simons Town also boasts the South African Naval Museum. The museum is dedicated to the naval history of this seaside town, and is complete with a submarine display and a rocking boat simulation. The Naval Museum is not the only site with a story to tell. In World War II, the Royal Navy adopted a beer-drinking Great Dane and the story is well documented in the Just Nuisance Museum, which is named after the dog himself.

Boulder’s Beach is undoubtedly Simon’s Town’s most famous beach, for the 3000 African penguins that make the sandy terrain their home. The name, Boulders, comes from the huge, rounded rocks that are scattered around the beach. Swim amongst penguins against the backdrop of this historic town.

Simons Town is only a 30 minutes’ drive away from great day trips in the City Bowl. Alternatively, you can take the train and watch the picturesque coastline fly past the window on your way into the Mother City.

Simons Town accommodation offers self catering venues, guest houses, quaint hotels and so much more. When searching for accommodation in Simons Town be sure not to breeze past some of the unique locations that the seaside town has up its sleeve. With a story around every corner, Simons Town is a coastal gem, begging to be explored.

Guest Story: A perfect family beach holiday in Plettenberg Bay

Robberg Beach Lodge

What a beautiful Lodge, excellent service (5 star), location is one of the best in this country. We received outstanding service from a team that exceeded every need we had as a family. The breakfast is outstanding and they catered for my children's needs which included items not on the normal breakfast menu.
