AREA INFORMATION
When to Visit
Any time is a good time to visit Tofo but there are some times to avoid if you're uncomfortable with extreme heat - these are December until end of February/beginning of March. These can also be wet months. If you're planning on diving, February can be a windy month creating choppy sea conditions, as can August. The winter months (April to October) are great as the days are hot and sunny, nights are a little cooler but comfortable and the Humpback Whales are here. Summer months are great for warmer water diving and the Whale Sharks. Summer months are most popular and usually busier.

What to Bring
The temperature in Tofo rarely drops below 20°C, even at night, so opt for light clothes, t-shirts, shorts and sandals. During the winter months you might need a sweatshirt or long-sleeve t-shirt to keep the chill off. During January and February and also a little in June and July, you might also need a light rain jacket. A hat is essential as the sun is very strong, all year round, and especially if you are spending lots of time out on boats! If you're planning on horse riding, remember to bring boots. Suntan lotion is difficult to find in Tofo so bring plenty with you as well as mosquito repellant for the nights.

Cafe No Mar Directions
Driving
If you wish to drive to Café No Mar, take the EN1 (the main road through Mozambique) and follow it until you get to the junction just south of Maxixe at Lindela. The road is mostly good condition tarmac although some areas are affected by potholes and in need of some maintenance. Once at the junction, follow the road all the way to Inhambane City. Once through Inhambane, another tarmac road (the EN259) follows the coast all the way to Tofo. All roads are clearly sign-posted. If in difficulty, ask any of the friendly locals and they will direct you to the road to Tofo. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is NOT necessary as the tarmac road runs all the way down to the beach. However, particular caution is advised on the roads connecting the EN1 to Inhambane and Tofo, especially at night, due to a very uneven road surface.

Flying
The closest international airports are at Inhambane, just a 20 minute drive from Tofo Beach, and also Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. There are flights from Johannesburg International Airport and Maputo International airport to Inhambane airport most days of the week. Flights are with LAM. Please check the airline website www.lam.co.mz for details, or book with your local travel agent. Café No Mar provide airport transfers on request. Please contact us for details of transfer rates.

By Bus
Local buses run daily to Inhambane from Maputo (leaving at around 5.30am and at 11.00am) in the south and Beira in the north. The bus from Maputo to Inhambane takes around 7-8 hours. The bus from Beira takes around 12 hours. Local buses and taxis (chappas) run several times a day from Inhambane to Tofo. The journey takes around 30-45 minutes.
