Rhino Island Safari Camp Description
Matusadona National Park is one of the last sanctuaries of the endangered black rhino, one of whom frequents the environs of the camp on a daily basis to browse and drink from the lake. A total of twelve guests can be accommodated in the six twin bedded lodges. A seventh lodge is reserved for use by the guide, who stays within camp whenever there are visitors. Visiting pilots may also share this accommodation. Each of the lodges is a spacious, thatched A frame style, with steps leading to the room approximately two metres above ground. The thatched roofs are designed in such a way as to encourage the flow of air through the chalet, ensuring that the interiors are cool, even in the hottest months of the year. Safaris are based on the wishes of our guests. Presently available are tracking of black rhino, elephant, lion and other game on foot, game viewing drives in an open safari vehicle, and boat cruises to view the animals as they come to the lake shore to drink (as well as enjoy the magnificent Kariba sunsets). All safaris are carried out in the company and guidance of a professional guide. The camp is accessed by speed boat from Kariba and takes approximately forty minutes or from the Rokari airstrip which takes approximately fifteen minutes. Charter flights into the Matusadona area from Harare, Victoria Falls, Lusaka and other nearby regional centres can also be arranged.
