Bloemfontein, also known as “the City of Roses”, is the most centrally located city in South Africa. The nickname is derived from the abundance of the flowers in the region. The City is also the judicial capital of South Africa as it houses the Supreme Court Of Appeal. The city is also known as Mangaung, meaning “place of the Cheetas” in Sesotho.

Bloemfontein is close to Lesotho, a beautiful mountainous country, landlocked within South Africa. Lesotho, the traditional home of the Basotho people borders on the magnificent Drakensberg Mountain Range. The location of Bloemfontein is ideal to use as a base to explore the country. The Free State province consists of mainly flat grassland and is home to a prosperous farming community.

The Free State Stadium is home to the Free State Cheetahs (rugby) and Bloemfontein Celtic (Football). The 45,000-seater stadium received upgrades prior to the Confederation Cup that was held in 2009. The stadium will host five first round matches during the World Cup on the 14th, 17th, 20th, 22nd, 25th of June. A second round match is scheduled for the 27th of June. The stadium in located next to the Cricket an Athletics Stadiums of the Free State.

Adjacent to the Stadium is the Loch Logan Waterfront, arguably the most popular hangout in Bloemfontein. The Waterfront boasts a huge manmade dam, complete with fountains and an island. There are numerous shops, restaurants and bars in the Waterfront. If you’re looking for relaxation, there is noting like the Free State landscape to let your thoughts go.
