Green Point World Cup Accommodation

The Green Point Stadium, located in Green Point, Cape Town is a newly built 68,000-seater stadium for the 2010 world Cup that is happening in South Africa. The stadium is in close proximity to the world famous Victoria & Alfred Waterfront and the Cape Town Harbor. The Stadium is set against the magnificent backdrop of Table Mountain.

The Green Point Stadium design incorporates 360 lights, fitted in the roof, to create a “ring of fire”. This will have a glass roof suspended over the pitch at 34,5 meters, a first in the world. The roof will act in reflecting light onto the pitch as well as a conductor of acoustical resonance.

The Staduim will host five first round matches, a second round match, one of the quarterfinals and a semi-final. Cape Town will come alive in the month between 11 June and 11 July 2010 as the city plays host to 8 matches. The area around the stadium, the Green Point common, will become a designated FIFA Fan Park, where a large screen will be erected, and provisions to be made for fans.

Initiatives like these and many others will ensure that all football fans in Cape Town can enjoy the beautiful game, regardless if they have tickets or not.
